Course Overview

The Certificate in Clinical Dermatology is a specialized training program designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to diagnose, manage, and prevent common dermatological conditions. This course aligns with PHCA’s mission to improve access to quality healthcare, enhance capacity building for healthcare providers, and promote public health awareness in Uganda and beyond.

The course emphasizes affordable, community-centered dermatological care, focusing on conditions that are prevalent in low-resource settings.

Target Audience

This course is designed for:

• General practitioners (GPs)
• Clinical officers
• Nurses and midwives
• Pharmacists
• Allied health professionals
• Community health workers (CHWs)
• Public health practitioners involved in skin disease prevention and awareness

Course Duration

• Total Duration: 3–6 months
• Delivery Mode: Hybrid (Online theoretical sessions + In-person clinical training)
• Training Centers: PHCA partner hospitals and community health centers

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
✅ Identify and diagnose common dermatological conditions in resource-limited settings.
✅ Develop cost-effective treatment and management plans based on local availability.
✅ Conduct minor dermatological procedures applicable in primary care settings.
✅ Recognize and manage skin-related complications of HIV/AIDS and tropical infections.
✅ Educate communities on skin disease prevention and hygiene in line with PHCA’s public health programs.
✅ Integrate dermatology services into community-based health programs, improving healthcare accessibility.
